GoaTFoN stands for Geek of all Trades, Fanatic of None. I think of myself of having been a geek since I was 5. I was picked towards the end for athletic teams in school, but my grandad had shown me how to hook up stereo components. And since the age of 3, I'd been listening to the precursor of audiobooks, read-along stories with 45 rpm records with the advanced feature of beeping when you were supposed to turn the page. At age 6, I was listening to spooky Disney albums, and by age 10, I'd discovered Star Trek. Since then, I've collected comics, signed books, sci-fi momorbilia, movies, computer bits and games, and music. I've written stories, been published in fanzines, made a music video for Skullcrusher Mountain, seen "Weird Al" Yankovic in concert multiple times during the same tour, and helped out with sci-fi and internet conventions. At the same time, while I would call myself a fan of many things, I've not gotten into the depth that some serious fans of one particular fandom have. I used to think that the bit in The Complete Al about someone selling his used dental floss was a joke. Now I'm not so sure. At any rate, I plan to keep skimming the surface of the fandoms I appreciate without getting sucked too deeply in. I enjoy getting the obscure references without taking the time to make a costume for them all.
